Which files work, and the size limit
Sliced output gives the strongest result: plain-text G-code and 3MF from filament slicers, plus resin files from ChiTuBox (.ctb, .cbddlp), Elegoo (.goo), Anycubic Photon Workshop (.pwmx, .pws, .pm5 and relatives) and PrusaSlicer SLA (.sl1). An unsliced model — .stl, .obj, or a 3MF straight out of CAD — gives a bound on material instead of a measurement. Up to 128 MB

Evidence and confidence
Every dimension the result rests on is graded A–E against its own published rubric, and named: File analysis, Material, Material price, Energy use, Electricity rate, Machine, Labor, Failure and yield. A number you supplied and a number read out of your file do not get the same letter.
Exactly what was calculated
The engine version, a hash of the full input, and the input itself — so the number can be reproduced, argued with, or saved and shared as it stands.
