Canvases and docs
Lay out a project's files on a canvas, or write together in a doc.
Canvases and docs live in a project's folder tree, next to its files, and have the project's access. Start one with New canvas or New doc in any folder.
Canvases
A canvas is an open board for laying out ideas: place images, 3D models, videos and notes, group them, and draw connections between them. Everything on a canvas is a file in the project. Drop a new image onto a canvas and it's saved in the project too; place an existing file and the canvas shows it without making a copy.
Generate on a canvas
Use the canvas prompt bar to make images, video and 3D models. Type @ to use an Element, so the same character or product looks right every time, and / to run a skill. What you generate appears on the canvas and is saved in the project's Made by Benchy folder.
Plugins can add panels to the canvas side panels, for example to pick colours from a brand Element or to prepare a model for printing. See Plugins.
A canvas can also be published as a website. See Websites.
Docs
A doc is a document you write with others in real time: briefs, research, supplier notes, instructions. Type @ to link a file, an Element or another doc. Ask Benchy to draft, summarise or edit a doc; it shows its edits as suggestions for you to accept.
Instructions you want Benchy to run belong in a skill, not a doc. See Skills.
Working together
Everyone who can open the project can open its canvases and docs. To bring in someone from outside the workspace for one canvas or doc, invite them as a guest, or send a read-only share link to the canvas. You see who else is there: each person's cursor, and a highlight wherever an agent is working.
History
Every edit to a canvas is kept in its history, with the person who made it and how it arrived: by hand, or as “Benchy's edit”, a plugin's edit, or an app's edit such as “Codex's edit”. An edit that Benchy, a plugin or one of your apps made for you undoes as one step, however many changes it made. Another person's agent's edits stay theirs to undo.
Docs keep their current text. The files that canvases and docs use keep their own versions. To keep a fixed copy of a doc, export it as a file into the project.
