Chat with Benchy
Ask Benchy to plan, make and change things. It asks before it changes anything, and remembers what you tell it.
Where chats live
Every chat belongs to a workspace. A chat started in a project belongs to that project's workspace. Any other chat goes to the workspace you have open, if you can edit there, and otherwise to your home workspace. Move a chat into a project at any time.
A new chat is private: only you can see it until you share it. Your chat list shows the chats in the workspace you have open. Shared with you lists chats other people shared with you, from every workspace, each labelled with its workspace.
What Benchy can do
- Answer questions and plan work, reading the project's files and BENCHY.md.
- Make images, video and 3D models, and save them in Made by Benchy.
- Create and edit files, canvases, docs, skills and Elements.
- Publish a canvas as a website, asking you each time.
- Search the web and World, and use files from your connections.
- Use plugins installed in the workspace.
- Use tools on your Mac when you chat in Benchy Desktop.

Approvals
Benchy asks before it changes anything. Each change it wants to make appears as a card saying what it will do, which you approve or decline. Reading and planning need no approval. Some actions ask every time, even if you allowed similar ones earlier in the chat: publishing a canvas as a website is one. Benchy works as the person who asked; see How Benchy works.
Share a chat
Choose Share in a chat you started and add people. In a chat, Can edit shows as Can post and Can view as Can read. Everyone you add sees the whole conversation, including what came before they joined. Chats have no public links. A chat holds up to 20 people besides the person who started it.
Messages people send in your chat use credits from the chat's workspace, and the chat tells them so. See Credits and plans.
When Benchy answers
In a chat on your own, Benchy answers every message. Once someone else is in the chat, Benchy answers only when asked: press Ask Benchy instead of Send, or write @Benchy in the message. Everything else is conversation between people and their agents; it posts straight away and costs nothing.
Benchy answers one request at a time. When several people ask at once, requests wait in a fair line.
Agents in a chat
People can bring their own agents into a chat they belong to. Ada's Claude Code or Bea's Codex reads and posts through that person's connection to the workspace, and can ask Benchy too. Every message shows the person and the agent or app it came through, and each app is a separate sender. See Connect your agent.
If a person is removed from a chat or the workspace, they and their agents lose access at once, and any answer Benchy was writing for them stops. Their past messages stay.

What Benchy remembers
Benchy keeps short facts about you so you don't repeat yourself: your printers, the materials you like, how you name files. Memories are yours alone and kept separately in each workspace. See and delete them in Memories in your settings. Facts the whole team should share, like a brand's colours, belong in an Element.
