Files, folders and versions

Upload files

Drag files or whole folders into a project, or choose Upload, then Upload files or Upload folder. Any kind of file works: 3D models, 3MF print projects, Blender files, images, video, PDFs, fonts, text. Folders keep their structure. Files you add to a canvas or a chat are saved in the project too, so there is only ever one copy to find.

Uploaded files count against the workspace's storage, which comes with its plan. See Credits and plans.

Previews

Open a file to preview it: 3D models turn in a viewer, print files show their plates, images, video and PDFs open in place, and fonts show a specimen. Files that can't be previewed show their name, size and type, and download as they are.

Versions

Every file keeps its versions. Uploading a file with the same name into the same folder adds a new version instead of a second file, and so does adding a changed file from Benchy Desktop or asking Benchy to edit it. Open a file's versions to see each one, download an older one, or choose Make current. A version published on World is marked Published on World.

Each file and version says where it came from: for example “Made in chat Bracket plan with Claude, via Blender render”, or the app that uploaded it.

Projects themselves are never snapshotted: each file has its own history. To fix a set of exact versions, publish them on World. A release pins the versions it publishes.

Folders and links

Arrange files in folders however you like; rename and move them freely. Choose Add link to keep a web page next to the files, such as a tutorial video or a supplier's page. Links travel with the files when you share or download a folder.

My files

Every member has one My files folder in each workspace, for files that aren't in a project yet. Only you can see it, and it has no BENCHY.md. It never appears where projects are listed, shared or published. Move a file into a project when it's ready for others.

Made by Benchy

Each project, and My files, has a Made by Benchy folder. Everything Benchy makes lands there: images, videos and 3D models it generates, exports, built print files, and print batches. These are ordinary files: move them, share them, and give them new versions like any other.

Files from your other accounts

When you use a file from a connection, such as Google Drive, Dropbox or MakerWorld, Benchy copies it into the project as a file with a link back to where it came from. Your work never breaks if the original changes or disappears. Bring in the newer original as a new version whenever you want it. See Connections.

Download all

Choose Download all on a project or folder to get it as one zip, named after the project, with its folder structure, the current version of each file, and its links listed in links.md. Your browser builds the zip as it downloads, so large projects work too. People with a download share link can do the same.

Delete and restore

Deleted files go to the trash, where anyone who can edit the project can restore them for 30 days. After that they're gone, with two exceptions:

• A version published on World belongs to its listing and stays for the people who got it.
• A version that an Element currently uses stays until the Element stops using it.
